Amazing Japanese style croissants and muffins for takeaways only! Signature croissants: Salmon and Almond.

More of a temporary experimental and research place for affable Japan trained pastry chef David, he has been coming up with ideas on what is best in a croissant. He’s getting them right!

With honesty, he told us on our first visit that the plain croissant will tell if the chef and his ingredients are good. All four of us got the cheapest plain croissant, one each, honesty doesn’t get you much sales….

Without heating up, we tried some at the office, texture was brilliant and taste was great. Brought some home and this time toasted it, croissant was brilliant, crispy crust with a chewy body.

I bought a salmon mentakai croissant and a chocolate lava muffin home. There is a bit of garnishing on the croissant and it has a very nice salmon flavoured tasting butter or mayonnaise, but there were no salmon fish within the croissant despite having eaten more than half of it.  I thought it was some marketing gimmick to call it a Salmon…. Croissant was so good I ditched the plan to ditch the end part of the croissant, to my surprise, I found a big piece of Salmon right at the end! While baking, the croissant expanded, depending in the way the flour expands, salmon piece could be anywhere. Pre-cook size of that piece of salmon is as big as a ring finger, so this is a bona fide salmon croissant, the taste and texture of salmon goes very well with the croissant, it is brilliant.

The chocolate muffin has to be heated up for full enjoyment. 170 degrees for 2-3 mins. This brings out the butter and the lava that has hardened, moistened and fragrant, the chocolate muffin came to life after being heated and it is time to get messy! The Chocolate Lava Muffin looks like an erupting volcano when heated, flowing moist chocolate on top and when cut, it flows out. Taste wise it is decent, looks a bit big for a muffin and it feels so.

The other signature dish, the almond frangipano croissant, is pretty tasty too. Nice almond slices on top, adding some crunchy texture to the croissant with a subtle almond taste. Both the signature croissants are well worth a visit here!

The babka, or to call it simply, bread, here is excellent too. Soft texture, and tasty body. It is fresh and chewy. Comes flavoured in various taste. If I remember correctly, he does sell plain babka, which was what my friend bought and donated a small portion to me…. That friend thinks that David's Babka are the best item here!

A giant muffin for $3, and some lovely croissants from $3 for the plain, to $5-6 for the signatures. Prices here are decent as Chef David says, he is experimenting and trying to gather interest. Come for the low prices, if nothing else, it may not last long!

Nice soft buns, cheese lover’s paradise.

The buns here are so soft, it kind of reminds me of my pillow, especially when I wake up with a patch of saliva on it, it feels like I’ve been dreaming of the buns here...

Looking at the buns on offer, you cannot help but notice that Bakersmith seems to specialise in cheese. Cheese this, cheese that, they must own a cheese farm somewhere…

Outstanding taste and value is the Nacho Cheese Sausage. A hot dog with a whole lot of nacho cheese spread over the top, my top choice here. The various other cheese buns are flavourful and soft, I don’t know which part is nicer. Even the ubiquitous sausage bun here has some cheese baked on top of it, same for the otah bun, this is how cheese and otah can go together I suppose!

There is not much variety here, and I personally am not too in favour of the polo buns here where the crust has a strong cinnamon taste, really not to my liking but maybe it is to you?

The mushroom cheese bun is another worthy of a mention. The soft creamy mushrooms fits the texture of the buns well, with the cheese coming from strips baked into it and lightly sugared, it's good!

The owners at the Marine Parade Central stall are quite friendly, do come by, mouth cheese and say hi, then bring home a few squeezy soft buns, they are pillow wetting tasty.

Cheap and good.

Haha… I really want to end my piece there. $1.00 for all except the hamburger (luncheon meat bun), this stall at the corner of the hawker centre has been around for ages.

I will not say that their buns are the best I’ve ever tasted, but at $1 each, it’s well worth the money. The buns are soft, and you have quite a good selection of the usual suspects. The stand out would be the sambal prawn, ham and cheese and peanut buns.

The uncle serving you is a funny character… as you yell out each order, he will yell back, “some more?”, or “next?” etc , encouraging you to buy more. It works, I ended buying 5 when the initial intention was 2-3…

This bakery has one special uncommon item that I love, the banana cream cheese bun. Nice creamy cheese, duh, with a sweet and soft banana inside a nicely baked soft bun. Whenever I’m here, I’d always buy one, or two to munch.

Generally, the buns here are soft and nice, with tasty ingredients. If you come here in the evenings, it’s $1 per piece, down from $1.30. You can see that they are trying to keep their items fresh.
