Roti prata, called roti canai in Malaysia, is a popular Indian Muslim pan cake like food item. Like a pan cake, or more closely, naan, it is a popular dish for breakfast. They are now also popular for late night supper, especially since a lot of chain stalls selling prata operate 24 hours or almost 24 hours. These stalls would also sell other local Malay or Indian food items, like fried rice or noodles.

Pratas are served plain, or with ingredients in it. Originally served just plain or with an egg inside, there are all kinds of things used in place of the egg these days. Egg is usually pan fried with an egg inside, or with the egg sunny side up outside the prata (called plaster, a term for band aids, as the sunny side up on prata looks like a piece of band aid). Cheese, chicken or turkey ham, onions, jam, banana, even pineapples can be used too. Do refer to what each stall has as they differ. I can't wait to see durian ones.....

Minced meat are also used, if meat (beef, chicken or mutton) is used they are called murtabak. Most murtabaks are pretty big and can easily feed 3-4!

Pratas are always served with a separate small dish of curry, usually meat or fish based. Kids would sometimes eat a plain prata with sugar too, but we have not seen this habit in a long while.

Lives up to their name, super crispy indeed!

I have been to Mr & Mrs Moghan 2-3 times, but never impressed. Then I heard Mr Moghan had been ill, could that be why (very sorry to later hear that he had passed on instead)? One day, I was around the area and what I wanted to eat was not available, and they were the best option according to my mood that morning. So I “gave them another chance”, and prepared to be disappointed, again.

This time, a few things changed. First there is now a chirpy Miss Moghan (ok, no I’m not sure if she’s really their daughter, just having a laugh here, but she did look very much like Mrs. Moghan). Friendly and chirpy, you are made to feel better instead of having your order taken by the grumpier so and so….

Mrs Moghan has moved into the kitchen to help out. Operations improved, became faster and by golly, the food is now better! The prata had always been crispy here but now there is an added brilliance, it felt fresher, and tastier. Seemed like the Mohgan passion is back!

Egg Prata

I had a cheese and an egg and onion prata. I always like cheese with prata, and onions too. The prata itself was thick and slightly chewy with a few layers underneath, this was surrounded by crispy surface. So you bite through a crispy layer to get to an inner chewy core. Crispy and chewy at the same time, wonderful texture!

Egg & Onion Prata

As I was going through the egg and onion, I realised I was more in the mood for a sunny side up kind of egg, instead of the more onion omelette style that I was enjoying… yes, it was still very nice but just didn’t suit my funky mood then…

Confession, I saw a prata with a runny yolked sunny side up on it when I walked in and kept thinking about it. So I ordered a third prata, just the simple “plaster” prata, with the egg ON the prata and not in it… an egg on a prata would look like a plater or band aid… hence the name. 😁😁

Ms. Sunshine Moghan was very nice, my plaster was delivered to my table instead of the number calling self-service. She helped me jump the Q too, it came immediately instead of the expected 10 mins later. Thank you!

Their murtabaks are very good too, filled to the brim with meat. I am not a big fan of sardines, and I don't really like sardine in a prata, so the sardine murtabak didn't feel right. However, the mutton murtabak was fantastic, there was so much minced mutton, the fragrance of mutton was in every bite.

Tasty crispy prata

Dropped off a passenger nearby one day, while passing by, she suddenly told me this place has the best prata, without any prompts or lead, she did not even speak throughout the journey... More curious than a cat, I stopped my shift and came back to try. She had a point! Pratas here are made to order, each cooked fresh; this alone is a big plus, plus each prata crispy, delicious and fragrant.

Ordered an egg prata and a plain onion. The egg was beatifully cooked, prata fragrant and crispy, it was delicious. Seldom are plain or egg pratas cooked upon order, but the ones here were made and cooked to order, making it fresh and warm, delectable. Likewise the plain onion, freshly sliced shallots in abundance too, everything fresh and warm and crunchy.

I had a masala chicken with my pratas, the chicken was tasty and tender texture wise. The masala was quite spicy, with a sweetish taste, so it was a spicy and sweet at the same time. I came alone but was immediately reminded of the boss at home….. working up a sweat just eating there.

This is a very nice place for a prata, and thanks to the unsolicited recommendation from Madam Passenger, I’ve been enlightened

Roti Prata

Chewy tasty pratas, exceptional cheese prata and murtabaks.

Adam road hawker always feels like the home of roti prata, and soup kambing (mutton soup). On my first stop here, got to give some prata a try.

Adams delight seems to be run by someone barely sober, but he got my order right and delivered to me later without fuss….

I had a murtabak (parata with minced mutton) instead of the usual pratas, coz it looked small in the photo. Well… it wasn’t! For $10, it can feed 2-3. I didn’t think I’d finish it.

Looks wise, the murtabak looked decent, it was not the usual big square piece, mainly coz it was folded over internally lengthwise. This might be why it was very interesting to consume…

The prata part of the murtabak felt fresh, texture cheesy and tasty throughout, some parts of the surface were crispy but the general texture of the prata was chewy. I liked the chewy and tasty part more, went well with the minced mutton sprinkled with some shallots. The brilliance of this murtabak was the cheesy buttery taste all over, even the two ends of the murtabak had this cheesy buttery taste. It was so good, I started out doubting if I could, nor wanting to finish the murtabak, to thinking I’d leave those edges without much meat out, to finishing every single crumb gleefully!

To be fair, there were very little parts without any mutton, barely a mouthful in total. The murtabak here was very enjoyable!

The cheese prata was unusual as the cheese was melted nacho cheese within the prata, as compared to the more ubiquitous cheddar slice. This made it tastier and it was spread throughout the prata, one up on the competition! It is not difficult to replicate but at this moment, it is the cheese prata to go to!

The onion prata here was slightly more interesting too, the shallots are cut in thicker pieces instead of the usual diced pieces; it tasted fresher and had a better bite to it.

Catching it between the lines, then extrapolating, I can tell that their plain and egg pratas will be tasty, as the bits without cheese or onions were very tasty too. The pratas here are less the crispy kind but more the chewy tasty type. My recommendation if you like your prata chewy!

The mutton chop is nothing to shout about here, so I'd probably stick with ptata and its derivatives, I'd say especially its derivatives here. They do them very well at Adam‘s Delights!
